When carrying
out research on magazine costs, I felt it was important to look into various
aspects such as:
Monthly or Weekly? Target Age Group? What
can they afford? Other prices
- competing with your market.
I
feel the pricing of magazines is important as you'd like your magazine to make
a profit yet you don't want to be too pricey. Music magazines such as NME, Q
and Kerrang cost £2.20, £3.99 and £2.20. NME and Kerrang are weekly magazines
therefore cost a lot less than Q as it is monthly. As NME and Kerrang are
weekly their price must be reasonable otherwise people wouldn't be able to
afford them. I feel perhaps monthly magazines is less commitment for your
readers and as a company less expensive for printing however if I were to make
my magazine monthly, I'd make it much less expensive, perhaps £3.10.
As I
would like to focus on perhaps a female market more so than a male, I must
think about age range, and what my age group could afford. If my audience was
aimed at between 16-25 years old, they may be a student and may not be able to
afford high prices, therefore I must think of a reasonable price.
