Bauer Media Group ...is
a German
publishing
company based in Hamburg.
It
operates in 15 countries worldwide and is privately owned by the Bauer Family
since 1875. It is
the leading consumer magazine publisher in the UK and publishes Q, Mojo and
Kerrang (*advertised as men's magazines).
Another
company is IPC Media (International Publishing Company) again one of the
leading UK magazine and digital publishers. It has a large portfolio, selling
over 350 million copies a year. They own NME, Guitar and Bass international
music magazines.
"Our men's portfolio (IPC Inspire)
comprises a wealth of leisure brands including Country Life, Horse & Hound,
Rugby World
and Decanter, as well as lifestyle brands including Nuts, Mousebreaker and
NME.
Our mass market women's division (IPC
Connect) comprises famous women's weeklies including Look, Now, Chatand
Woman; TV entertainment brands including What's on TV, TVTimes and
TV & Satellite Week and, online, thegoodtoknow
network."
When
looking at the above information, you see that the music magazine (NME) is
placed within the male portfolio. I have noticed that this is also the case for
Bauer Media. When looking at the Woman's division it is generally about fashion
and gossip, no music; therefore if I would like to produce a magazine targeted
at both genders I'd perhaps have to focus on other aspects such as fashion and
gossip as well as music to make it more attractive for women.
